AT&T Drops Lawsuit Against Verizon and its Coverage Slamming Ads

Filed Under (Internet Marketing News, news) by ericbrats on 02-12-2009

The ongoing war of words between Verizon and AT&T has come to an end — in the courtroom, anyway. According to CNET, AT&T has dropped the lawsuit it filed last month against Verizon that claimed ads comparing the respective coverage maps of each carrier were misleading.

As anyone that watches much TV can attest, the ads continue in full force, with Verizon airing a seemingly unending array of commercials slamming AT&T’s coverage, and AT&T responding with its own ads attacking Verizon’s weaknesses and spinning the coverage story in a more positive light.

Here’s one of Verizon’s recent ads that ran over this past weekend:

AT&T didn’t seemingly have much of a leg to stand on in this case, as Verizon’s current batch of ads clearly indicate that the map comparison is based on 3G coverage. But worse than that, the telecom giant has a big perception problem at the moment. A new Consumer Reports study published yesterday indicated that AT&T had the lowest customer satisfaction among major wireless carriers in the US.

How does AT&T fix the problem? In the long run, the only option seems to be simply to improve its service, which is much easier said than done.
